3 Important Terms to Know and Understand

There are some key terms that you are going to need to know and understand before you embark on any venture in which you try to generate affiliate commissions.  So, I'm going to do my best to give you some of the most important ones and to define for you what they mean in my own words.

"Keywords"-These are important search terms that people are plugging into Google Search that might lead them to your site.  As I mentioned on page 1, you can use the Google Keywords Tools, and if you've got a site up, plug your website URL into Google Keywords Tool, and you will see how many people globally and locally are searching for various terms in your website (or related terms.)  So, look for the ones that have the highest number of searches that have low competition.  Use those words somewhere early in your home page or introduction page.
If you might consider writing Travel Blogs, if you are a frequent visitor to far-off and exotic places, perhaps you should consider learning how to write travel blogs and get paid for it.

"Article Marketing"-Article marketing is a way to generate affiliate commissions by doing product reviews.  The best reviews are on products that you are already using, but you have to make sure that you are picking products that are either expensive enough to generate some decent income, or pay a high enough commission rate that only a few sales will bring in some good money.  Here is an example of one product review I did recently for Circulon and Calphalon cookware.  Click on the preceding hypertext to read the review.  If you opt for writing reviews, there are some good free sites where you can get your feet wet.  Check out Squidoo, HubPages, and EZine Articles just to name a few.

"SEO" or "Search Engine Optimization"-This is the act of putting what you learned from your keywords into practice and making your keywords direct traffic to your site.

"Backlinks"-I'm going to divert to a more thorough description of "Backlinks, What They Are, and How to Use Them." provided by Google Blogger.  Click on the preceding hypertext link, and it will take you directly to Google Blogger's definition of backlinking.

"PPC" or "Pay Per Click"-This is a method by which you would probably sign up for Google AdWords, and they would analyze your website, and they would set up an AdWord campaign for you.  Once that's done, you will be charged everytime anyone clicks on one the Google Ads that Google has generated for you.  If you are just starting out, and you don't have tons of cash, this probably isn't a really great idea.  If you are already generating some good income, then AdWords might be a good ad-on feature to whatever campaigns you are already running.

"CPA" or "Cost Per Action"-I'm going to defer to WikiPedia for the definition of this particular topic, so "Click Here" to read the definition.

"Revenue Share"-Pretty much what it sounds like.  You promote an item and you get a percentage of the sales price (sometimes 50% or more).  If it's a subscription item, you might get a percentage of renewals also.  For more detailed information, check out this Hubber's article:  http://moneydigger.hubpages.com/hub/Revenue_Sharing
